Works written in the detective genre are usually interesting. Turning the pages of such books, the reader has the opportunity to feel the atmosphere of danger and investigation. A quality detective is a mixture of tension and intrigue, cynical crimes and ruthless murders; it is a triumph of brave and clever rescue heroes who punish villains. However, sometimes these fascinating stories impress not only with plot intricacies
Gillian Flynn «Disappeared»
This book quickly became a bestseller, and the film version of the novel with Ben Affleck in the lead role not only received rave reviews, but also the «Choice of the People» award in the nomination «Best Thriller Film». However, both the film and the book make one wonder: is everything that really happens a reality? The events are so confusing that it is difficult to understand who the real criminal is. Not bad is the hero who comes to mind first… Some images seem to be created to show how quickly you can turn the lives of others upside down and make it hell.
«They say there is no love without conditions. Most people think so. But if love has no boundaries, no boundaries, no rules, how do we know what we are doing right? If I will be loved in spite of everything, then what should I strive for?… Love must have a lot of rules. Love requires constant self-improvement from partners. Love without conditions – love without discipline»
This is not a happy love story, and together with the heroes you will go through a journey of despair and betrayal. This is an annoying story that will confuse you, but it will not disappoint – the author will skillfully keep the readership in suspense from the first pages of this detective story until its completion.

Gillian Flynn «Dark Secrets»
Contradictory stories, nervous characters, a clever hero and an overly horrible theme are all in The Dark Secrets.
«-… I have changed. Of course, not immediately – about a year later. Tied to drugs, tied to the devil. It was harder to part with the devil.
«Did you really believe in him?» Lyle asked.
– And that! Trey shrugged. – You have to believe in something, right? Everyone has their own faith»
An ordinary family was brutally murdered in their home, but a seven-year-old girl, Libby, somehow managed to survive the horrific massacre. Largely due to Libby’s testimony, her brother is convicted of these horrific murders. Years have passed since the tragedy, and now Libby is an adult woman who has doubts about the details of that fateful night, which she desperately wanted to forget. Libby Dan is a complex, but undoubtedly interesting heroine. Ben Day, the girl’s brother, is another compelling character. He tells his version of events in a story with Libby and their mother, Patti. The dialogue takes place between the three characters and is a strange bridge between the past and the present. An interesting author’s technique makes it possible to understand different points of view, and may even learn the truth. «Dark Secrets» – a novel about the secret aspects of the human soul, which hides terrible thoughts, dangerous deeds and other secrets.

Gillian Flynn «Sharp Objects»
The gruesome plot revolves around crimes committed by a serial killer in a small American town, killing little girls. For the Chicago edition, someone has to prepare a report on the terrible events, and this mission falls to Camilla – a journalist who was born in this town. Returning home, to a hellish hole, encourages a woman to relive the memories of losing her own sister. The plot twists allow readers to better understand the character of the main character and her surroundings. And although at first Camilla does not cause much sympathy, the author demonstrates her «star reception» – she creates quite unpleasant characters, and eventually makes readers sympathize with them.
«I like it when it gets dark early.
«Why?» Because it means that the day is coming to an end. I always cross out the past days in the calendar: the 151st day has passed, and nothing really terrible has happened; 152nd – The Earth is still spinning, the world is not destroyed; 153rd – I still haven’t killed anyone; 154th – I still have no fierce enemies.
Sometimes it seems to me that I will not feel safe until I have a few days to live. Three more days – and I won’t have to worry about anything else».
The story is terrible, but convincing. Despite the eerie aura created by the author, it is interesting to read: I really want the criminal to be punished.

Dan Wells «I’m not a serial killer»
John Wayne Cleaver is a teenager who has been helping his mother and aunt work in the morgue since the age of eight. John is a sociopath, and although he is attracted to the stories of serial killers, he himself is not a criminal. The guy is the only one who probably knows the culprit of deaths in their city – a real demon. What role will a 15-year-old boy play in this story?
«People wanted an explanation as significant and effective as the killings themselves. But the truth was even more frightening: the real horror is not caused by giant monsters, but by small, harmless-looking people».
This detective is fascinated not only by action-packed events. The book raises social issues, makes you think about the conditions in which children grow up in the family and how it affects their future lives.

Dan Wells «Mr. Monster»
The Detective Story «Mr. Monster» is the second book about the life of John Wayne Cleaver, who continues to fight evil. Even if you haven’t read the book «I’m not a serial killer», fans of the genre will enjoy this story about a terrible addiction, struggle with yourself, hidden fears and secret desires.
«Feelings are not bad or good. Only strong or weak. Love, for example, is a weak feeling. Someone loves you, you reciprocate, for a while you are happy, and then the love fades. But if one of the lovers betrays the other, then there are real emotions, something strong appears, something that will leave a mark for life. Betrayal is the best».
Who will win this fight: a sociopathic boy or a ruthless monster? Readers who will cheer for the hero are advised to be vigilant: the author has prepared some very cool plot twists. In addition, the fight will be a brutal killer, and you will eventually sympathize with the protagonist.

We were not going to spoil in any case, especially since we are talking about detectives. We are sure that these mysteriously horrible stories will turn your quiet autumn evenings into stunning book adventures.
