Every year, humanity unofficially celebrates the Metro. From 1863 to today, the subway is the most reliable transport in the world, which has the greatest demand. Once the inhabitants of the metropolises could not dream about the wonderful underground transport, and today they can not even imagine their lives without him. And let Zhitomir not be part of the community of cities that own their own subway, why not dream …
The word “underground” comes from the French “chemin de fer métropolitain” – the metropolitan railway. Trains in subway trains are regular, according to the traffic schedule. The subway is characterized by high speed (up to 80 km / h) and shipping capacity (up to 60 thousand pass / hour in one direction). Subway lines can be laid underground in tunnels, on the surface and on overpasses. The latter is especially characteristic of city monorail.
The first subway in the world, the creation of which was dated back to the nineteenth century, was opened in London, its length was 6000 meters, and the demand was unbelievable, because in those years, in addition to the caravan transport of the population, even in large cities, did not know another transport.
Year after year, the trend of metro spreading was spreading, and in 1960 it “started its roots” in Ukraine. Kyiv Metro became the third in line after the Moscow and Leningrad Metro in the structure of the USSR transport. At present, the metropolitan underground system is ranked 24th in the world by passenger traffic and 49th in length. Interestingly, the operating length of the three lines of the Kiev underground is 67, 6 km.
The deepest in the world – the station “Arsenal”, which is one of the key central stations of the Svyatoshinskyi-Brovary line: it is located at a depth of 105.5 meters below the ground.
The first four metro stations occupy a special place in Kyiv: Vokzalna, Universitet, Khreshchatyk and Arsenal. They are included in the list of numerous historical and architectural monuments of Ukraine as an example of the best decisions of architectural and sculptural design.
In addition to the capital, the underground railway line was laid in Dnipro and Kharkiv.
The Kharkiv metropolis has 3 lines with a total length of 38.45 km. The underground of the first capital of Ukraine was laid in 1975, there are 30 stations with three transplant nodes. Operational length – 38 km, which allowed the underground of Kharkiv to occupy the fourth place after the Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kyiv subway.
Dnipropetrovsk has only one line – Central Plant, which was put into operation in December 1995. Its length is 7.8 km and has 6 stations. The number of stations since 1995 has not changed.
The record figures on the achievements of metro-construction in the world can boast:
• New York metro system for the largest number of stations and routes: 472 stations, 36 routes.
• Shanghai and Beijing – the largest length of the lines: 588 km and 573.6 km, respectively.
• Beijing and Tokyo – the largest annual passenger traffic: 3660 million and 3616 million people respectively.
The Metropolitan has simplified the lives of millions of people all over the world, becoming one of the fastest and safest modes of urban transport, the development of which is not only a necessity, but also a trend in urban planning. Who knows, maybe once and Zhytomyr will become a happy owner of his own line of subway.
