«I am sure that science and research activity brings you more satisfaction than money», – said Stephen Hawking, a scientist with a worldwide known name, a symbolic person. Ukrainian scientists de facto agree with this statement because they continue their research activity despite all the unfavorable factors both subjective and objective character. A successful defending of a dissertation to obtain a scientific degree of a candidate of the historical sciences in the National University «Ostrozka Academy» – is a personal victory of Bohdan Kytsak. A teacher of history and philosophy of the Berduchiv pedagogical college had investigated an interesting and unusual topic- «A Medical supplement of the population in Reichscommissariat «Ukraine» 1941-1944 years». Mr.Bohdan has shared with Zhytomyr.Travel his thoughts about interpretation of the historical past and a role of science in the modern world

«I was always attentive to the thoughts of the scientists who had raised a question of the World War the second. I understood, that there is a painful and honest process of rethinking by the national scientists of the tragic pages of history of the Ukrainian people. I knew that there were lots of gaps in the Ukrainian historiography connected with the question of getting a medical service by the citizens of Reichscommissariat «Ukraine», so I took the topic which was suggested to me by a talented scientist – a doctor of historical sciences Serhiy Volodumurovuch Stelnukovych»

«A dissertation was written in a very tense rhythm. Every day was scheduled: what to do, about what to make an appointment, where to go, what resources to search, to work on, analyse, conclude, to check, critically evaluate, what to find out and at last what must be simply printed»

«In a list of worked resources out and literature were 588 positions- books, documents, eyewitness’s accounts, archival records. Generally these are documents from eight archival institutions of Kyiv, Kyivska, Zhytomurska,Vinnytska,Dnipropetrovska,Rivnenska,Gomelska( Republic of Belarus) regions. Also there were worked out the periodicals of all the general regions- it’s 35 printed editions from the different years»

«There should be critically evaluated the works of the investigators who had lived and worked in a Soviet Union era. I had a very careful attitude to their works, tried to find honest numbers and facts in those politically engaged works»

«In my work I had written about the process of evacuation of the medical area of the USSR. I refute allegations of Soviet historical science about absence of a well-established medical support of the population in the years of the Nazis occupation of the USSR. That is Soviet government had left people without any medicine, and the Nazis had created it from the scratch. Moreover, they had supplied with the medicine socially vulnerable categories of the population»

«I was shocked by lots of things while I was working out the documents that were 75 years old. Firstly, an evaluation to the East a large amount of property and medical workers of the Republic. So, the Soviet government had deprived the population’s rights on the medicine. Secondly, organising in the shortest terms a system of the medical service at the territory of Reichscommissariat «Ukraine». I want to emphasize: a system which was created in adverse conditions-an alien territory, military actions»

«I do not idealize the German Occupation authorities. They had their own priorities: the medicine was needed for the local population to work in the interests of the Third Reich, and for avoiding of the spread of epidemic desases, that made much more difficult for the Nazis to stay at the territory of Ukraine. Additionally, the occupational power had restored the activity not only of the short-term courses and medium specialzed institutions, but also the medical institutes»

«Firstly, you have to be honest in a science, and, understand me correctly,-a brave one. Otherwise there is no need to go into science»
«A modern Ukrainian science is steamed with dust of a Soviet era. Everything that was written in the times of the Soviet power must be thoroughly checked and rethought. We remember, that at those times a science (especially history) should subserve the government, that’s why it is absolutely full of lies and untrue facts. Generally, globally the history started to be rewritten from the beginning of the rule of the Bolsheviks. They wanted to created their own version of the development of the historical events, as the nationality that doesn’t know its history is just an easy manageable group of people»

«In any of the high-deloved countries the scientists play a key role in the developing of their country. Yes, the scientific and technical progress is driven by the scientists! I am sure, for Ukraine to make a qualitative leap forward it must popularize science and support scientists. It’s a pity, but the majority of the young minds should move away, someone is secuced by better life conditions, and money. In accordance, Ukrainian people invest their valuable ideas into the development of the other countries. We have to be the patriots of Ukraine»

«Ukrainian country will necessarily create the needed conditions for the scientist at last, because science is a country’s prestige at the international stage. Science is fashionable and perspective!»

«The more young scientists with critical thinking- the faster Ukrainian original country and science will be reborn»
