The creative people are restless: they are always trying to comprehend the world, and they are looking for new opportunities for that. It is their genre of video poetry – an avant-garde art form, initiated by the Italian Gianni Toti
Video poetry, or “Poetronica,” as its author called it, combines cinema, poetry and electronic art and gave the opportunity to convey special feelings to its followers. Not so much this genre is young (its embryos can be found even in Tarkovsky’s ribbons), but extremely original – it gives a lot of new possibilities. It is the versatility of the genre that attracted well-known Ukrainian poets of the younger generation who took part in the project “Falling the Silence” and created a complete video tape based on their own achievements. And although the official presentation of the work took place in May, viewers still talk about it with enthusiasm.
In cooperation with the Mast artistic association and with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, Lesyk Panasiuk, Ella Yevtushenko, Taras Malkovych, Darya Hladun and Bohdan-Oleh Horobchuk have completed a non-profit project with an estimated budget of no more than the iPhone’s cost.
What is the uniqueness of work? “Crossing the silence” – a successful attempt to combine the originality and talent of Ukrainian artists with the help of modern tools. The main metaphor for the “Overcoming Silence” cycle is difficult, atypical communication. And it is expressed, in particular, through the image of water. As water constrains movements, closes the voice, makes impossible the coherent language, and real, already non-metaphorical problems lead to the usual communication to us. This is primarily about deafness.
The use of digital technologies expands the horizons of Ukrainian art, gives it an opportunity to take its place in the world art space. The PicOi LIVE Production video poetry has a sensual musical accompaniment, sponsored by Endless Melancholy (original version) and Gene Slavian & CB1 (festival version), and special equipment that allowed to film under water, and the skill of the team created a unique atmosphere of intimacy and penetration into The mind of the viewer.
First of all, we are not interested in the number of jokes in Youtube or Facebook views – all this can be wired as you wish, as is often done with pop video. It is important for us that ” Crossing the Silence ” is appreciated by people who have a serious cultural background, “one of the authors Bohdan-Oleh Horobchuk told.
Professional videotape actors Cyril Horoliuk, Oksana Hrushanska, Maxim Ostiak, Yuriy Yudin and Alina Skoryk featured in a video pastime “Crossing the Silence”. Traditionally, poetry read poetry for Ukrainian video poetry, but here the project is different: the texts were read by the professionals of this business.
The Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, the “Smoloskyp” Charitable Foundation and the mobile operator lifecell acted as partners and helped to breathe life into a creative initiative. In addition to the development of the avant-garde genre and the popularization of domestic poetic achievements, the project accomplished another important goal: drawing attention to the problems of people with hearing impairments.
This year’s winner of the Shevchenko Prize Ivan Malkovych, who liked the work, and “Public Television” took him into rotation, was present at the presentation of the cycle ” Crossing the Silence “.
“Crossing the Silence ” – the project is unbelievable, spectacular. And the most honored for us is the fact that two of the authors of the poetry are Zhytomyr citizen Lesyk Panasiuk and Bohdan-Oleh Horobchuk. And it is likely that it is because of their work that Zhytomyr will once receive prizes from modern festivals – the Ukrainian Cyklop or the German Zebra, and the genre of video-poetry will gain momentum and will spread a range of connoisseurs.
