An enormous amount of books, movies and even computer games is built on the history of amazing finds. You do not give James Russell’s fame, and you dream of writing a romantic novel? In the Zhytomyr Museum of Local Lore you will see such artifacts that you can create more than one masterpiece, and experienced archaeologists or historians will argue, distinguishing between historical truth and your creativity.
The exhibition “Archaeological mix: periods, epochs, and culture” shows for the first time unique discoveries discovered on the territory of Zhytomyr region. Objects of everyday life, tools, decorations, antique coins and many other interesting items were taken from the museum’s storage, so that visitors could immerse themselves in a mysterious past.
Artifacts of the Stone Age – evidence that in the second millennium BC Our ancestors lived here. And how did they live here?
Driven in our region and the ancestors of the elephant – mammoths. In the 70’s of the twentieth century, a mammoth tooth was found in Zhytomyr. Its size, of course, is striking: they had nothing to do with hunting! And how the original people were not afraid to go to such a huge animal…
We are accustomed to enamel and aluminum kitchen utensils, but our ancestors cooked food in clay and ceramic bowls or pots: flat-bottomed or sharp-edged, with a rare ornament.
A separate place at the exhibition is dedicated to things that were found at Zamkova Square as a result of large-scale archaeological research in 2012. At the depth of four meters, the researchers found extremely interesting finds of the XII-XVIII centuries: ceramics of Kiev Rus, silver coins of Russian and Polish minting, bone buttons, bronze rings. Some things do not look like samples of a similar age, found near Sophia of Kiev.
A high, shrewd young guy with a long bang, a mustache and a claw in her teeth, the writers described in their writings by the Ukrainian knights – the Cossacks. And this image is not invented! Cossack tobacco cubs that were used in the 17th century are a vivid proof of this.
Maybe you will once again be amazed by the descendants of your own perils. In the meantime, it’s hurry: a strange exhibition will take place in the local lore museum only 10 days! And who knows how many literary and cinematographic masterpieces will arise after a survey of artifacts.
