Time requirements, competition and development of gastronomy gave us interesting institutions with original chips. But there was some kind of nostalgia behind the places that had been enjoying the guests for decades. Each trip to such a place gave the confidence that you are here happy. Over time, some of them failed to compete and left the market, some, stepping upwards over time, changed only in detail. And there were also those who appeared in front of their supporters in a new form, leaving their inherent uniqueness. It was in such a restaurant that we went with our gastro expert – curious blogger Elena Riumina
Location The undisputed attractiveness of Zhytomyr is in its compactness. Therefore, to speak about the remoteness of the restaurant from the center can only be conditional: the distance we do not exactly metropolitan. You can reach “POLISYANKA” from the center for only 15-20 minutes by car..
Even guests of the city who do not use the navigator services will not have to be confused for a long time: from Kyivska to Khlibna Street, to the end, and the first turn to the right. There, on 1, Sinnyi lane you will find “POLISYANKA”. Undoubted convenience of the institution is the presence of a large private parking, where a dozen or even more cars will be fitted. You will feel the ultimate separation from the impoverished city when you go inside.
Interior From the ethnic style of “POLISYANKA”, nothing has been left. There was a complete upgrade in the institution, but it’s not worth it to regret! Family comfort and a comfortable atmosphere not only have lost, but also increased thanks to the old good Provencal style. And all this is subtle, and even somewhat razzily emphasize some details. Small tables and cute home style trinkets on the terrace seem to emphasize the marital and homely atmosphere.
The small hall is nostalgically reminiscent of the main room for the reception of guests – the living room (there simply waits for a buffet with grandmother’s cram). But instead of post-Soviet “furniture joy” – stylish pillows and chandeliers above the table, which adjust to the atmosphere of positive and unity during a family dinner or business talks.
Large mirrors in the main hall create a sense of open space. Such a decision visually contributes to perception: the room seems much larger. Since you do not immediately realize that this is a chandelier for the entire wall, the hall “keeps the secret” until you carefully look at it.
The guests are finally “domesticated” and cause a good smile of books near the dressing room – a good design joke, from which you immerse yourself in memories … But here without details.
Guests who come here with the child, with pleasure will notice a separate children’s room with toys, coloring and puzzles. By the way, if you warn of your arrival in advance, there will be an animator. Actually, everywhere in the interior are dominated by European standards and Ukrainian households.
Cuisine The only thing left of the old “POLISYANKA” is the chef’s warehouse. Suddenly, once you went here for delicious dishes, then rejoice that there are “retrogrades”: it’s tasty like ever! “Classic” with cabbage, Olivier with tongue, salad “In Greek style”, “With salmon”, “Caesar” – choose on your own taste. It is easy to understand the logic of choosing our gastroexperty – “POLISYANKA” salad, which embodies the classic Ukrainian understanding of home-made salad: there must be meat and mayonnaise. A mix of boiled chicken, corn, orange, and nuts supplement some of the ingredients that summarize the options of salads such as “Mom always does so”.
It would be possible to choose a more European variant and among appetizers: pate, bruschetta with salsa or assorted cheeses. And it is possible and not to depart from Ukrainian traditions: herring of own salmon or home pickles. The choice of hot dishes is also diverse: varenyky, dumplings, pasta, pancakes. And everything is done by local chefs. You can choose dishes from poultry, pork or beef. But for some reason, I wanted to know if the “Tender Veal Cheeks” really match the claimed name. And this contributed to the reflections on restaurant naming, when it became a tradition for the name of a European dish to choose the words of the country of origin. It would be nothing, but not always waiters can explain to the client what it meant. With cheeks it turned out to be just plain: it’s literally the one written about in the menu. The experience of gastro experiments did not fail: the cheek is actually a cheek, and besides, it is actually gentle.
There is a menu of soups, there are desserts, but we are interested in children’s options. And the youngest visitors here were taken care of at home: vegetable soup and chicken broth with noodles, cabbage and pancakes, cheesecakes and chopsticks. And of course children’s hits – “Crab” salad and “Kids” pizza. In fact, rewrite the menu does not make sense, it is worth trying yourself. At least our Elena had planned such a trial visit with a growing gastro expert. And the last argument in favor of the next visit was the price for lunch – just over 150 UAH.
Service At decent complex dinners, which here have a really “funny” price – 45 UAH, here almost a lot of people gather at the same time. Anyone who has ever had an attitude to the restaurant business understands , how difficult it is. But the staff of “POLISYANKA” very dexterously and diligently cope. Both afternoon and evening they are friendly and attentive, they try to guess the tastes of the guests, offer a meal or help make a choice. And this is a true art, and they need a team to master it. Since the forgotten phrase about the fact that everything is decided by the personnel, it is more relevant for restaurateurs than ever, then the formation of the team, and staffing issues in general, are in the priority. And this unquestionably progressive approach gives excellent results! Arguments to look at the transformation of “POLISYANKA” seems to be enough. The only thing you have forgotten about. Go on Saturday in full family and get a 10% discount on your next visit.
