Defenders of Ukraine Day is a relatively young holiday, but there have been many periods in the history of our state when we fought for independence. Such pages of history, difficult and tragic, need to be studied and known. There are various possibilities for this, and it is not always just the books themselves. Historical reconstruction is no less interesting

Ihor Makarchuk – a student of Zhytomyr State University. Ivan Franko. His interest in studying history was transformed into an interesting and meaningful hobby, associated with the reproduction of the appearance of people who lived in different eras – historical reconstruction. “Such reconstructions are necessary for practical research and reproduction of images of different periods. They allow you to visualize and present a historical epoch or event in a new format. In this way, history is perceived and remembered better,”says Ihor.

On the eve of the Day of Defenders of Ukraine, students-historians presented the project “Living History”, which aimed to present the images of Ukrainian soldiers of different eras. Thanks to this format, the guys managed to tell about the era not in the form of numbers, dates, facts, but to recreate the story live.

“It’s a great hobby, especially for a historian. In this way, it is possible not just to study a period from the point of view of dry information, but to involve a practical component of the study, ” boys believe.
Ihor Makarchuk presented the uniform of a soldier of the UPR army.

The standard headdress in the army of the Ukrainian People’s Republic was a round English-style dress cap. According to the orders of the time, the uniform provided for the introduction of military insignia on the sleeves with the help of chevrons. The blue color of the chevron meant that the soldier was an infantryman.

Stanislav Skrypnyk presented the uniform of a UPA soldier.

Mazepynka attracts attention – a headdress, which with a characteristic V-neck looks like a Cossack hat in the time of Ivan Mazepa.

Dmytro Kovalchuk presented the modern uniform of a volunteer battalion soldier, which is almost similar to the current uniform of the Ukrainian military.

In the future, students plan to develop the project, because the presented images cover only some pages of the military history of Ukraine. In the future, the guys plan to reconstruct the history of the army of the UPR of the early period, the UPA, as well as show what the Ukrainian Sich riflemen looked like.
