Have space meetings occurred in your life? We are lucky: On October 12, the Zhytomyr Museum of Astronautics met with the legendary woman, astronaut Heidemarie Stefanyshyn Piper.
A graduate of MIT has been in Earth’s orbit twice, becoming NASA’s eighth female astronaut to launch into outer space, and the second person to launch a Ukrainian flag in orbit. She described the path of Heidemarie Stefanyshyn-Piper at the meeting, and also she said: «This is my story, and I challenge you. Determine for yourself what your life will be like, your story». Heidemarie described what helped her succeed, and the advice of the legendary astronaut will be definitely needed for those who consciously build their own future.
1. Don’t Look for Easy Ways. «Mathematics was easy for me in school and I decided to study engineering».
2. Learn! «My mom and dad said to me and my four brothers, «Kids, study». They didn’t have time to study, but they told us we could go to university».
3. Be persistent. «When I submitted my application to NASA, I was told, «Try more. Many astronauts send applications several times – two, three, four, five. I wrote more and more, and two years later I was accepted – I became an astronaut».
4. Learn to Constructively Evaluate Challenges. «Difficulties will occur in your life. The main thing is not the fact itself, but how you react will leave the situation».
5. Respond correctly to criticism. «Understand your mistakes and do not repeat them. There will always be criticism, so keep your head high and get out of the situation with honor».
About her visit to Zhytomyr, Ms. Heidemarie said: «When I found out that I would have an opportunity to visit Zhytomyr, I was very interested. I knew that Korolev from Zhytomyr, this is where the space program began. I’ve never been here, and this was my first time». Such space meetings are inspiring, and the example of a prominent astronaut proves that one must set ambitious goals and reach them step by step.
