When we talk about a person who has achieved so much in his profession or activity, we call his name significant. Today, on the World Jeweler’s Day, we want to remember not just famous and talented representatives of the jewelry world, but those whose names have become iconic

Carl Faberge created such masterpieces that gave him the status of an unsurpassed Master. For example, a collection of stone flowers. Faberge recreated delicate cornflowers and forget-me-nots as if reviving stones and precious metals. The jeweler stared at the living plants, because there was a greenhouse next to the workshop. No matter how rich the palette of stones of rich nature, it was not enough to reproduce the colors of flowers from stones, so the Master learned to change the color of the mineral and gold. Created flowers in a vase of rock crystal, which added the effect of filling with water, became one of the most amazing products of the jeweler. He realised a jeweler and the intention to create a dandelion: a golden stem, jade leaves, diamond dew, but the down borrowed from a real medicinal dandelion. However, it remains a mystery what substances he used to fix the delicate creation so that the golden dandelion would not scatter its own fluff. Out of time remains perhaps the most famous precious creation in the form of an Easter egg, made to order by Tsar Alexander III as a gift to his wife in 1885.
Cartier is a jewelry brand that first appeared in France in 1847. The jewelry of this brand impressed Napoleon’s sister. In 1902, Cartier jewelers received an order to create a crown for King Edward VII, and later the brand became a personal supplier of jewelry for the royal family. The most famous jewelry of the French brand is the LOVE bracelet, first created in the 60s of the last century. The Cartier bracelet has stood the test of time and remains a favorite among jewelry for many fans. Among the owners of Cartier jewelry – Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie.
The history of Tiffany began in 1837. The jewelry house creates its jewelry from platinum, silver, gold with precious stones. The highlight of the brand is that each piece of jewelry is packed in a small box of soft turquoise color with a combination of blue. The world recognizes Tiffany by the color of the box and the conciseness of the collections. It’s hard to believe that the company, which set several basic standards in the world of jewelry fashion, earned only $ 4.98 on the opening day. One of the achievements of the jewelry house at one time was the fashion for silver and tanzanite. The mineral, allegedly accidentally found in Tanzania, quickly found fans thanks to Tiffany and not without the help of the film industry: the properties of bright blue stone were appreciated by cult director James Cameron, and a special «American» style typical of Tiffany jewelry was popularized by Audrey Hepburn. Today, the jewels of this brand are demonstrated not only by the star guests of the Golden Globe or the Oscars. Delicate and exquisite engagement ring from Tiffany has become a «classic of the genre».
Swarovski is a crystal empire founded in 1895. Austrian engineer Daniel Swarovski started his own technology of creating and cutting very transparent glass, which changed the jewelry industry. Thanks to the composition and facets, crystal jewelry looks no worse than real diamonds. At the first show in Paris, Swarovski jewelry caused a real delight. Delicate and bright Swarovski crystals were used both for making valuable jewelry and for decorating everyday things – mobile phone cases, glasses, clothing items and even manicures. Prior to the pandemic, the company had more than 34,000 employees and products were sold in 170 countries, but today the Swarovski jewelry house is waiting for large-scale changes caused by the crisis.
Michelle Ong creates elegant women’s jewelry, which harmoniously combines oriental and western motifs. While working with precious stones, she mastered all kinds of stone cutting and modern jewelry technology. Later, Michelle gathered a base of customers who admired her jewelry, and in 2003 she decided to open her own jewelry brand called «Carnet by Michelle Ong».
Victoire De Castellane creates her jewelry in the famous «Dior». She began her career as a jeweler under Karl Lagerfeld, who at the time was involved in updating the Chanel brand. Playful design and bold aesthetics made Victoria Di’s jewelry original and recognizable. After ten years of working with Chanel in 1998, the designer agreed to work for the Dior brand, where she continues to create jewelry.
There is always a lot of work behind fame and recognition. To master the profession of a jeweler, it is important to know mathematics and chemistry very well, to have good eyesight, and for Ukrainian entrants to even be examined by a psychiatrist and narcologist before training. However, years of work can result in new technical solutions and works of art for which descendants will be grateful.
