LIUDMYLA KYTSAK, RESEARCHER OF MODERN UKRAINIAN LITERATURE: “DETECTIVES HELP TO REST AND PURIFY YOURSELF MORALLY”

When I was preparing for an interview with my heroine, I had a half-dozen questions to her. Exactly fifty. Probably, this is my personal record so far.
Liudmyla Kytsak is a candidate of philological sciences, a teacher, a researcher of a modern Ukrainian detective (I call her “detective” of modern Ukrainian literature), event manager, working mum. This summer the monograph of the author “Ukrainian Detective: Origins, Interpretation, Genre” was published.
On the day when the city celebrated its birthday, we talked to Mrs. Lyudmila. And now I know about detectives all, well, or almost everything.

“The inspiration for my scientific work was the mother, the candidate of pedagogical sciences, teacher Tamara Babiychuk. I was invited to graduate school, to write a scientific work on a pedagogical specialty. But I took and instead of the technique went to the decree “(Smiling)
“… And from the decree I saw a lot of detectives. I was very scared, but very interesting. She spoke about her mom’s impressions, and she suggested an idea: let’s write about the Ukrainian detective! ”
“I realized that in the decree I can finish the graduate school as well. After all, I was incredibly lucky with the scientific leader: Petr Vasilievich Bilous not only tolerated and wisely directed scientific work in the right direction, but also with understanding and interest belonged to my mother’s status ”
“Preparing for the interview, he again reviewed his monograph. Already with some of my statements I do not agree, I can argue with myself after protection. The views are changing … But perhaps you should rejoice at this, that you do not continue to admire your first material. Rejoice that you as the author grew up. It’s worth it to think like a chess game. We first admire that we know how the figures “go”. And then it turns out that there are all kinds of strategies and tactics. And later you realize that you can have your own style of playing in this sport. ”
“My son collects records of his chess parties. I did not know before that the chess players are recording ”
“With children before bed, we read many contemporary Ukrainian art pieces. When reading my tales of my children, I understand that almost everyone has a detective plot: a riddle, an intrigue – an investigation – the discovery of truth. Now, with Danilko and Nadia, we read the work of Galina Malik “Vuiko Yoy and Terrible Great Cook”. We read to the episode in which the detective Pishchik appears from the enchanted city ”
“The detective scheme works for both the child and the adult. The detective encourages the reader to play an intellectual game. Detectives are erased very quickly from memory, but memorable feelings. So it’s interesting to re-read them ”
“What else is interested in detectives? The detective helps to rest and even to be cleansed morally, the reader may come to the idea: I am good, I’m not a criminal and will most likely associate myself with a hero-nispork ”
“Another question is whether the offender is punished later. Very often there is no punishment in the detectives ”
“The detective – the product is not necessarily about the murder. A detective can conceal a great deal of mystery. And the “chip” of modern detectives – there is no dead body, respectively, and the crime as if it was not. On this occasion, I mentioned “Dragon Tattoo Girl” by Stieg Larsson in the morning. I would recommend you to read this wonderful writer ”
“Angel Flesh” – a very cool detective Pavel Zagrebelny, whose events are related to history, Ukrainian historical values. I would advise yet to read the retrospectives of Valery and Natalia Lapikuriv ”
“… He was not exhausted as a writer. He just stopped writing. But he showed that it is possible to write cool detectives in Ukrainian. Leonid Kononovich »
“The classic detective denies the love line. But modern authors absolutely do not neglect it, and sometimes it comes to the fore. Love line romantic detective »
“In my home library of Ukrainian detectives, I think, there will be fifty. And there was much more to read. And how many have not read, I’ll tell you! I’m not Andriy Kokotiuk, who aims to re-read all the modern Ukrainian literature that is being published. “(Laughs)
“I respect Kokotiuk, who” draws “his books. I’ve already got rid of the drug, how many of them. And almost all of his works are detectives. His latest retro-detectives, for example, “Lawyer from Lychakivska”, “Ghost from the Gate”, “The car from Pekarskaya”, “The lover from the Market Square”, are much better than the “Marriage of the frogs”
“I had the idea to write a detective about a provincial Ukrainian city and about its life. It should have been not a pure detective. And there was an idea to write a psychological thriller. Over the idea, we should work together with the husband. However, the work is already written by a man himself. I’m not the author of a detective artistic genre. If it were, I would already have written, published and researched “(Laughs)
