In the opinion of men, every woman is a hidden actress … And if the actress is a profession, then who should a woman be? Answers to these questions we have heard from Maryna Demb, an actress of Zhytomyr Academic Music and Drama Theater named after Ivan Kocherhy.
“I did not dream about acting career, although from childhood I grew up as a very creative child! However, my creativity was never taken seriously by my parents, and there were no actors in my family. Like all parents, they wanted a practical profession for me. When at the last moment, instead of a polytechnic institute, I went to join the Zhytomyr School of Culture, treated me with understanding and supported it”
“I’m not supposed to live for life! There is such a theatrical tradition: if the script falls, you have to sit on it. 99% of my colleagues follow this superstition. From the first day in the theater (and I’m already working here for the 16th year) it was funny for me, and I said that I do not believe in it! And no matter how much a script with my role fell (and it fell down!) nothing happened!”
“How many roles I have played on the stage of our theater, it’s hard to count … But there are, of course, a few special, key, the closest ones to my liking … For example, Anna’s role in the play, based on I. Franko’s plays “Ukradene Shchastia “. This is the case when you did not even have to learn the text. It seemed to be living in me. Of course, I can not overlook my monastic “Woman in Style Jazz”. Well, one of my very first performances, where my becoming as an actress took places – the youth drama “Escape from reality”. For many years, we have this performance, and every time I was laid out for all 100%. Senior colleagues then said: “Maryna, play technically: you can not miss everything through yourself!” But differently I could not. After all, the topic of drug addiction, unfortunately, is now relevant. And if it did not sound high, then my mission was to save at least one young soul! ”
“In my profession, there are many talks about what is more important: talent or work? And from this I assert with full responsibility that 50 to 50. No talent to do anything in this profession! But without everyday hard work you will have nothing! ”
“The most important competition is not with our colleagues, but with us. She is inside you! Do not stop for a moment! You yourself have to raise the bar and every time take a new height”
“We constantly complain about the lack of time, and in principle, the very same problem. But you have to be able to find it! Recently, I was at the opening of the exhibition of our artist, Zhytomyr citizen, Ukrainian artist Yurii Kamyshnyi. Even when you talk to him, you open up something new to yourself. And then “hang” around his paintings and you understand: we live, not noticing something important, always hurry somewhere, to the bread store. But we need not only bread! Go take a child and go to her exhibition, look at the picture and think about something good! ”
“I am very self-critical! … This is the same thing. And in my youth it was very, very difficult to live calmly. For every time, if something could not be done, it was a real tragedy! Now I have learned to draw some conclusions, but I do not really like criticism from the outside. Of course, I try to listen calmly. But criticism for me is a pretty devastating factor. While praise is an incentive to go further and try harder”
“The birth of a child for a woman is a special moment in life at all. This is what reveals a woman, gives her new colors, feelings, feelings … Thank God I have a “complete set”: my daughter and son … So I advise all women not to stop at one child “(Smiling)
“For my daughter, I try to be a friend. She is now 9 years old and we have friendly relations with her. I do not really want to lose them in the future … I try to find time to talk to her. I accustomed to work. Nothing in life is simply given. I am absolutely sure of this! ”

And without too much modesty, I will say: children’s plays are the best! .. We make such large-scale children’s productions, decorations, and costumes. You know, flowers for actors are always a pleasant piece of work, and when they are from children, we just adore! ”
“When my son appeared, I felt like a mother really. How is the first child? You did not have time to get scared, but she’s already grown! I think that the viewer, when he sees the name of the performance, is already predictably configurable to something mystical. In fact, in the theater there are no such opportunities as in the cinema, so showing mysticism in such conditions is much more complicated. We make every effort to make the performance interesting, and at the same time realistic”
“Zhytomyr for me is a Zhytomyr theater! It would be desirable for him to always attract people magically to himself … I know that those who constantly go to the theater always advise coming to our performances”
