On January 21, 2014 members of the European International Museum Project Culture Themes implemented a holiday – flash mob of the Museum of Sephi. The first social event was held under the slogan of the National Museum in Kabul: “The Nation is alive, while the culture lives.” The action is intended to attract attention to museums and to include them in the modern information environment.
The idea of the event is simple: it is necessary to visit any museum and in its walls make a sephi next to or against the background of the exhibit, which liked it. Sephi fans should place a photo on their Facebook page, completing the #MuseumSelfie hashtag signature and a hashtag with the name of the museum where the sephi was made. And for this there is no need to go anywhere, because Zhytomyr Regional Museum of Local Lore was one of the oldest institutions of the museum type throughout Ukraine, which was founded in 1865, for the massive action on the Internet.
In our museum there are more than 150 000 monuments of history, nature and culture of Zhytomyr region. A lot of interesting: a zoo collection, created by ethnologist-zoologist Vsevolod Brukhovsky; archaeological finds from the excavations of the early Paleolithic settlement of Zhytomyr; ethnographic materials from Raikovetsky settlement of the IX – XIII centuries; samples of clothes, carpets and handicrafts of Zhytomyr Polissya; books from the library of the Ganski-Zhevoush and a lot of interesting things.
For the first time, those who come to the Zhytomyr Museum are especially impressed with the collection of Western European art from the 17th and 20th centuries, private collections of Baron de Stodorus and Ilinsky-Stetsky from the Romanovs, works by leading art schools of Italy, Holland, Flanders, France, Austria and Poland.
Local history museum is not only a central building in the historic center of Zhytomyr. There are five more departments: the department of funds, historical, ethnographic, art and information-exhibition department. Memorial Museums V.G. Korolenko, L. Ukrainka, M. Rylsky, Korosten Local History Museum, the museum of guerrilla game of Polissya, the Brusyliv Historical Museum named after I. Ogienko are in separate premises in the Zhytomyr region and operate on the rights of the department.
