On July 20, the world celebrates the International Chess Day. Sharp mind, logical thinking and patience – these are the main components of victory in the “royal” game. But to call chess simply a game is not quite right – they have long been recognized as an official sport, and the number of passionate supporters of “gymnastics” for the mind around the world about half a billion

The history of chess begins in the V-VI centuries. In India and in Ukraine they appeared during the times of Kiev Rus. In the 1550’s, Italian fans and chess promoters opened the world’s first chess club.
The official interpretation interprets: “Chess – board game on a board, divided into 64 dark and bright squares, with 32 white and black figures.” In fact, this is an exciting lesson for true intellectuals!
Elena Kharchyshyna, the founder of the Zhytomyr Chess School “Intellect”, is convinced that quite recently, she herself dreamed of mastering the art of chess: “I have been engaged in chess professionally for only a year, and occasionally played in my childhood. Now I am a professional manager, I have experience in management, consulting, and teaching management disciplines at the National Aviation University, and I decided to establish a Shah School, because my youngest daughter plays chess. I understood that our city needs an alternative institution with a high level of teaching. ”
It’s said – done! In August 2015, with the master of chess sport, the seven-time champion of Zhytomyr region, Igor Viphaniuk, who had long dreamed of creating such a school and looking for a partner interested in chess, “Intelligence” was founded, and in November the school opened its doors. Now children from the age of 5 years are studying there, and adults – about 100 students in total.
Classes in the club are conducted by high-class chess players, and groups of different levels: for beginners, middle-level chess players (II-III sports class), a group of 1st level chess players – KMS and hobby groups for adults. “Chess is a game that is suitable for all generations,” said Igor Viphaniuk, “they can be both a wonderful hobby, a game for the development of intellectual abilities, and a way of earning money, of course, if you do it professionally. The fact that this is extremely useful and necessary lessons is a fact undeniable! A child from the youngest age is taught to think strategically, think a few moves forward, carefully follow the enemy’s plans, and most importantly: all decisions, even the smallest, chess players take on their own, without anyone’s help! ”
Zhytomyr Chess School is proud of its pets: MG (International Grandmaster – ed.note) Iosif Dorfman – USSR champion, coach of the world champion Garry Kasparov, MG Alexander Huzman – coach of the world champion Boris Gelfand, MG Serhii Krivosheia – champion of Ukraine, MG Iryna Cruz – US Champion, Elina Hroberman – US Champion, kms (candidate for the master of sports – pr. Ed.) Artyom Sachuk – President of the Chess Federation of Zhytomyr Region. And, of course, the world-famous chess coach, the founder of the Zhytomyr Chess School, Mikhail Trosman.
This entire means that Zhytomyr has a wonderful potential and all chances to become a true chess Mecca! And we congratulate those for whom chess has become part of life!
