There are several versions about the heroine works: someone says that it was the daughter of the artist; others saw the daughter of a patron of Rovena, the patron Saint of the wizard. The author of the third version was the American-British writer Tracy Chevalier, who says that the painting depicts a maid-mistress Grid, whose name supposedly means pearl. The plot unfolds around the hidden feelings and social stereotypes of those times.
