Do not think, dear readers that the title will be about Zhytomyr tramway and trolleybus management. This is a little different story … I am a native Zhytomyr citizen. Many roads in their hometown go to some automation, when you can go, close your eyes, and think about yourself, plan and dream. Then it seems that nothing is changing, and Zhytomyr is the city of your childhood and student adventure. But this is not quite true, right? In other words, the guests of the city help to see their home. Jan Tichavský, a photographer from Prague, showed me the Czech particle of Zhytomyr
“Zhytomyr liked Czech trams and trolleybuses. And this is a quiet and calm city, unlike Kyiv or Lviv, for example ”
“Once I was filming a video train at the railway station. There, on the Kyiv bridge, a lady started shouting at me. Then she went down and asked if I was a journalist. She did not wait for the answer and began to complain about bad roads and other problems. My train was coming, so I apologized and ran. At that moment, it was a pity that I could not help neither this woman nor the Zhytomyr dwellers with their problems … ”
“I know that the most” Czech “in Zhytomyr – the Museum in Kroshnia with the Czech motorcycle “Java”, a brick and a brewery. The museum reminds of the history of the Czechs in Zhytomyr. But I have not seen these buildings yet. Most of Czech, of course, is transportation. Not only trolleybuses and trams, but also cars “Skoda”, the locomotives CHKD (ČKD – Českomoravská Kolben-Daněk, one of the marks of mechanical engineering and electrical engineering in the Czech Republic and in the times of Czechoslovakia – the author’s comments), we call them “bumblebee”
“Every time, when I come to Zhytomyr and go somewhere to walk in your city, there is a desire to catch some moment. So, I notice a lot of interesting episodes or situations that would be unusual for my city or country ”
“I do not remember tourists in Zhytomyr. Although the city has something to attract them, if you advertise it more, for example, through posters on billboards, show on TV in other cities, fast in social networks … And not only what to look at, as well as where to eat, for example. You have a lot of good coffee shops »
“From my adolescence, I was interested in various devices that capture the image. I borrowed to try to make photos of myself, different cameras, until I grew up and started to work. Then, at last, I bought my own camera and lenses ”
“At first, I liked the trains. I photographed them because I was a student and traveled a lot. Then I had less time after I finished my studies. So I began to take pictures of what is in my city. More trams, they reminded me of trains. It turned out that this transport has a very long history, and I would like to fix it in my photos. The trams do not go out of fashion, even when they age. So, thanks to my hobby, I realized that you can see a lot of interesting things just a way to work. It is not necessary to travel far to photograph interesting things »
“Good day to all inhabitants of Zhytomyr! I know that your city has the same long history, almost like Prague, so I wish you to be proud of it and develop it, create a metropolis in the future, but do not remain in the shadow of Kyiv ”
