Every year Ukraine together with many others countries of the world on June 1 celebrates Children’s Day. Have you ever wondered why and how the holiday came about? We found interesting facts
Fact 1 The history of the holiday dates back to 1949, when at the Congress of the International Democratic Federation of women in Paris decided on an annual celebration of the event. The idea of celebration was supported by 51 country.
Fact 2 For the first time Children’s Day was celebrated in 1950s. Nine years have passed, and the Organization of The United Nations has adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child. It is important that the declaration had no legal force -was only of a recommendatory nature, however the rights listed in it were to be recognized by all children, without exceptions and restrictions.
Fact 3 Did you know that Children’s Day has its own flag? On a bright green background red, yellow, blue, white and black figures. And this symbolically, because wherever children are born, they are all-have equal rights.
Fact 4 In 1978, the Polish Government introduced the Commission of The UN Human Rights Initiative a new project declaration, which was to finally confirm the rights of a child in the legislative field. Above the new document worked for more than ten years, and in 1989, after long-term work, the United Nations adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Already through five years after its adoption, the Convention has been ratified more than 90% of the member countries of the Organization of The United Nations. This is absolutely unprecedented event in the history of international humanitarian law.
Fact 5 The new document contained constructive and innovative norms, became a kind of constitution for all the children of the planet. Our country has ratified Convention in September 1991, shortly after how it became independent. And so almost 70 years every year adults and children celebrate the international holiday in different parts of the world.
