Tired of the balcony landscape? Do you go out to the store at night so God forbid you get in the supermarket queue? A four-legged pet is full of hugs and the home office destroyed the line between leisure and working hours? Then do not read, because you will envy the authors of these lines. While the networks are actively discussing the conditions of self-isolation of people in cities, somewhere, like in another Civilization, someone lives in small villages. What is it like, being in the corners, cut off from civilization in the truest sense? Thoughts and Impressions of Quarantine and Rural Realities for Zhytomyr.Travel told Inna Zhur
The driving force of information
A small village called Kamianka is located almost at the end of the world – 40 km from Novograd-Volynsky. When the quarantine was officially announced, the carriers informed the people that there would be no bus traffic. None. Thus, the village was cut off from civilization. Of course, our people stepped up, panicked, and began to rake up all sorts of goods in the village shop at a crazy rate. Shops in the neighboring village also experienced raids. Some even came by motorbike and bought everything they saw. The village radio BBC (the author’s note – «one granny told the other one») spread the rumor that during the quarantine the products would not be taken. Here it is, the driving force behind information.
Big «+»
Subsequently, the villagers calmed down and continued their normal life in accordance with the requirements of quarantine: once again do not walk the village, without needing to visit the store. This, truth be told, has become a big plus. The store had disappeared with large clusters of people who simply «sharpened their tongues» and «brushed someone’s bones», even reduced the loot, because they were mostly going to the store or under the club.
Labor landing
Easter is coming soon, for which people are preparing hard, because in the village the preparation for one of the most important holidays begins in almost two months. As long as the weather allows you to actively work, people constantly clean the backyard, are charged with fresh air, prepare the land for planting, collect garbage, sort through vegetables stored in cellars. By the way, the store has enough of everything you need to tidy up your home and yard. And yet the workers returned home. At first, they walked the village defiantly – it was necessary for everyone to show up, but after persistent recommendations from the neighbors and the village head, they still self-isolated.
Hunting for the network
The schoolchildren started unplanned vacations. Well, it’s just a secret. You ask why? Teachers are just dropping off schoolchildren’s assignments, and there is almost no internet access in the village. However, there are avid educators who distribute homework for each class in the «unnatural way»: hang ads on the door of a village store. Subsequently, this information is transmitted to the «sundress radio» when one goes for bread. And only students are suffering: like real hunters, they go to the countryside to find a sacred place and set up a network. As they climb into the attics or trees to accomplish their tasks, schoolchildren open the fishing season and enjoy the first warm rays of the sun.
Quarantine hand made
All official structures in the village operate remotely, except for paramedics. It contains all possible and important drugs. Although the family doctor comes several times a week or when there are calls, local paramedics are ready to come to your rescue. Mass hysteria has also affected the countryside through the purchase of masks and antiseptics, but older people recalled the forgotten experience and sewed masks on their own. Instead of antiseptics, they wash their hands with household soap, and to access the «World» use handmade antiseptics from alcohol or put on gloves, which the owner provided with his shop
The Birth of New Traditions
The post office located in a neighboring village (1.5 km away from Kyiv) is in full-time mode, as it is strategically important for local people. Aside from press distribution, retirement and Utility billing, there is another important function that mailers do: reassure the elderly and assure that all will be well. You just have to believe and beware. Some good rural traditions are dying off because of the threat of coronovirus, but new ones are emerging. Previously, good neighbors used to greet a handshake or hug, now they keep their distance or walk across the fence. However, young people have become more helpful to the elderly – they bring food and leave the elderly on the porch, for which grandparents are incredibly grateful.
From the author Despite all the troubles of life in the village rages. Quarantine is not only an opportunity to protect yourself from the disease. This is a happy time to spend with your loved ones, wake up every morning from the voice of your beloved mom, relax in the open air, admire the flowers that bloom in the garden and look at swans that are arriving on the pond, and yet bring to life your own thoughts and just regain your faith into life and people. The main thing is to morally support those around you, to give them a sense of care and love.
