YOUTH AND HOLIDAY: 6 INTERESTING FACTS

On the last Sunday of June, Ukrainians traditionally celebrate the Youth Day. This year the holiday is twofold: June 28 also marks Constitution Day. Probably, this is not accidental, because it is the youth that are the drivers of change in the state. In addition to the traditional greetings, I would like to recall some interesting facts about the history of the holiday and the «culprits» – our youth

Fact 1. This Youth Day is 62 years old: the decision to celebrate was made in February 1958. After Ukraine gained independence, a new stage of development of the state began, a new history, so in 1994, youth NGOs initiated a holiday in independent Ukraine. Since then, the last Sunday of June has been officially considered to be Youth Day.
Fact 2. Some people think that Youth Day is a holiday for schoolchildren and students, and at thirty or, God forbid, forty people shouldn’t even talk about it. However, the World Health Organization identifies young people between the ages of 25 and 44. Maybe tomorrow is your holiday?
Fact 3. Do you know that young people perceive information differently? Scientists determine the presence of the phenomenon of «clip thinking» in the younger generation. It is much easier for young people to watch an informative video available online than to find and read a long text instruction. The fact remains that short texts, pictures, stickers, smilies and memes are better and more accurately remembered. This is not surprising, as young people use technology more often and are most enthusiastic about the digitalization process, and social networks sometimes become their real world.
Fact 4. According to the National Sociological Survey «What Ukrainians Know and Think About Human Rights», young Ukrainians consider freedom to be their main value. Unlike the older generation, young Ukrainians are less inclined to expect social benefits from the state and are willing to decide their own destiny. Every second young person in Ukraine values the right to a fair trial, and every fifth considers the right to marriage and equality in marriage to be the most important.
Fact 5. According to research, about 56.5% of young people intend to live and work at home, and 21% of respondents said they plan to work abroad for a certain period of time, but then return. Of course, having freedom, you can choose what you like, but we would like our youth to develop their country.
Fact 6. The fact remains that 75% of young Ukrainians are most committed to democracy as a value. Young people are more optimistic about the future and more prone to change, planning their lives ahead. Not for a year or two, but 10-15 years ahead, but it only works with those who have already chosen a goal in life.
So plan for the future and achieve your goals. Happy holiday!
